Why is a continuous vapor barrier essential when insulating a shipping container?

Because the exterior steel container wall is completely impermeable to water vapor, any moisture penetrating the insulation layer becomes trapped against the cold steel. A continuous, perfectly taped vapor barrier on the interior warm side prevents moisture from reaching the steel, eliminating condensation and hidden rust.

What is the difference between mineral wool and PIR foam insulation?

Mineral wool offers superior acoustic dampening and non-combustible Euroclass A1 fire resistance while fitting tightly into corrugations. Rigid PIR foam provides higher thermal insulation values per millimeter, allowing a thinner wall build-up that maximizes interior usable floor area. How much interior space is lost after installing the insulation package?

A standard insulation package with timber studwork and lining reduces interior width and length by approximately 100 mm to 120 mm total (50 mm to 60 mm per side). Ceiling height is typically reduced by 70 mm to 100 mm depending on the specified insulation thickness.

Can the insulation package be installed on an existing customer container on site?

Yes, our teams can install the insulation package on-site inside customer-owned containers provided the interior is clean, dry, and free of cargo. However, workshop installation prior to delivery is faster, cleaner, and ensures optimal curing conditions for adhesive tapes and sealants.

Does insulating a shipping container reduce external rain noise?

Yes, dense mineral wool and multi-layer wall and ceiling linings absorb vibration and acoustic energy dramatically. The loud metallic ringing sound of heavy rainfall or hail hitting the thin corrugated roof sheet is effectively muted into a quiet, muffled background sound.
