Can double-glazed windows be installed in any location on a container?

Yes, windows can be fitted into long side walls, closed end walls, or even side doors. The only technical requirement is maintaining sufficient spacing from the corner posts and horizontal edge rails so the structural steel box frame can be welded securely into the surrounding Corten steel.

Does cutting window apertures weaken the structural integrity of the container?

Cutting corrugated steel panels temporarily reduces shear stiffness. However, continuously seam-welding a heavy rectangular steel hollow section frame around the entire aperture fully restores structural load transfer and rigidity, ensuring the container remains completely safe, stable, and rigid during heavy crane lifting and road transport.

How do double-glazed windows prevent condensation inside the container?

Multi-chamber uPVC profiles and argon-filled double-glazed units provide high thermal resistance, keeping the interior glass surface warm. This prevents warm interior air from condensing into moisture droplets on the pane during cold winter conditions, protecting interior finishes and sills from dampness and water pooling.

Can external security roller shutters be retrofitted to the windows?

Yes, heavy-duty extruded aluminium security roller shutters can be integrated directly onto the exterior steel subframe. They operate via internal manual crank, belt winder or electric motor, and lock automatically in the down position to provide robust physical protection. Are standard residential windows suitable for shipping containers?

Standard uPVC tilt-and-turn windows are suitable only when mounted into a purpose-built welded steel subframe. The welded frame provides the flat, rigid mounting face necessary to prevent container flex and vibration from racking the window frame and breaking seals.
